Casino Nova Scotia is located in Nova Scotia, Canada, and has sister venues in Halifax, Canada, and Sydney, Australia. Steelman Partners are the designers of both Casino Nova Scotia and its sister casino in Sydney.

In 1995 Casino Nova Scotia opened in the Sheraton Hotel in Halifax, but that was just a temporary location, and it moved to its new home, the $100 million Vegas style casino on the stunning Halifax waterfront in 2000. Originally it was owned by Caesar’s, but in 2005 Casino Nova Scotia was bought by the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation. The Sheraton Hotel, an associate of the Casino Nova Scotia was sold at the same time to the Marriott Corporation. The casino is connected via a walkway to the Marriott Halifax Harbour front, which was formerly known as the Casino Nova Scotia Hotel and the Sheraton Hotel Halifax.

Structure Very Complicated

Casino Nova Scotia has a complicated structure. The size of the property and site meant that part of the casino needed to be built over water. Most of the land that the casino occupies is landfill. The part of Halifax Harbour that the casino was to be built on was filled in with rock and excavation materials from other constructions sites, as the ordinary reclaimed land was too unstable to serve as a foundation for the building. Pillars were driven through the landfill into the bedrock, and the floor of the casino hangs on the supporting pillars like a huge wharf.

In 1995 Casino Nova Scotia added a sister casino in Sydney, located in downtown Sydney in George Street.
